AYANGANNA TOURS is a registered Tour Operation which got its name from Mount Ayanganna, a peak that stands 2,041 meters (6,696 feet) in the Cuyuni/Mazaruni area and is a part of the Pakaraima Mountain Range in western Guyana. It is accessible, by land, from the Amerindian Village of Chinoweing and by air from the Ogle Aerodrome.
It was during an eight week visit to the Upper Mazaruni area in 1996, a
s a Volunteer conducting training in seven Indigenous communities, that the splendor of the terrain became firmly etched in the mind of the Managing Director, Vibert A. Welch. In particular, Mount Ayanganna, which was always visible from the window of his accommodation (Health Centre) at Chinoweing, appeared to be within ‘easy walking distance’, as the crowflies.
Mount Ayanganna is part of the Guyana Shield and abounds with some of the World's rarest and most endangered species of flora, fauna and avi-fauna. It is eighty five kilometers east of Mount Roraima, a peak of 2,810 meters (8986 feet), that is shared by three countries- Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana.
Mount Ayanganna has special significance in Guyana. The Guyana’s National Flag, the Golden Arrowhead, was raised on this peak for the first time on 26 May 1966, as part of the celebration of Guyana’s Independence from Great Britain. Ever since Guyana became a Republic on 23 February, 1970, the Golden Arrowhead is hoisted ceremoniously on Mount Ayanganna, on the eve of the Country's Republic Anniversary, by members of the Guyana Defence Force.
AYANGANNA TOURS is registered with the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG). It will collaborate with other tour operators, resort owners and local communities to facilitate tours to any of the destinations throughout the length and breadth of Guyana. It will also facilitate tours to Margarita Island (Venezuela), Brazil and Suriname, the wider Caribbean and Latin America; and further afield.
For that personal touch, arrange your visits through AYANGANNA TOURS.
ABOUT THE MANAGING DIRECTOR
Share in the experiences of Managing Director of AYANGANNA TOURS, Mr. Vibert A. Welch, who combines over thirty seven years of living and working in Guyana’s hinterland (from the peak of Punta Playa in the north to the Akarai mountains in the south) with his extensive knowledge of Guyana’s coastal areas to create Ayanganna Tours.
Because of his years spent living and working with and among the hinterland communities, he is thoroughly familiar with all of the tourists' destinations in Guyana, most of which are located within these communities. He has coordinated visits of many World Leaders and other prominent persons to some of these destinations, and in particular, to the Majestic Kaieteur Falls, with the highest single drop - 741 feet - in the World; and to the Iwokrama Rainforest with its Canopy Walkway. He has been directly involved in theTourism and Hospitality sector, serving as Manager of a Resort for over six years
During his travels, Vibert has seen Nature at its best and has visited many areas that few Guyanese have ever ventured. Imagine hundreds of Scarlet Ibis at the mouth of the Waini River, at sun down. Imagine thousands of swallows (swifts) at dusk, hovering above, then “breaking formation" to swoop down and through the cascading waters, to their nests under the Kaieteur Falls. Imagine the thunderous roaring of the Majestic Kaieteur, with the waters of the Potaro River plummeting 741 feet, with beautiful rainbows visible across the flow. Imagine a line of turtles making their way to the sea at Shell Beach. Imagine boating down the Mighty Essequibo River, from Kurupukari to Bartica and riding the legendary Itanami Rapids.
These are some of the mental images, which provide him with "memories of a lifetime". With AYANGANNA TOURS, you too can share in these experiences and more.
